Monologue of Bell Hook's daughter (Sub-altern Fiction)

It was a windy June Sunday. For Bell would have named the day a wuthering day but she has seen worse living in Brighton. Hence, not just yet. When Emily Bronte wrote Wuthering Heights , Bell believed that Emily Bronte or erstwhile Currer Bell was most certainly trying to draw parallels between the internal and external torrents; there is something tragic to reflect and soothing to feel when there is an external calamity in form of thunderstorm or lightning etc., that ostensibly emulates one's internal clamour. Although far from home, yet Bell holds home nearly but it may not be possible to always hold it dearly. Though things are settling down inside Bell now, this phase is always past the phase of great upheaval and torment. Women are said to be prone to hysteria; Bell's father always defined her behaviour as hysterical too. While, she understood over time, men find it impossible to justify women's behaviour, she could never bring herself to question her behaviour; there w...

Winter Blues

Reminiscence of the past time revives each year, when the autumn is knocking at the door. It also signifies the arrival of winter. When the sun starts to set earlier with the passage of each day and the day becomes shorter, when people lock their thresholds sooner than usual and the footpaths are empty by 8 p.m. When no more do the crickets sing nor do children play outside for long. When everything is closed and shut, the things and vision is vague, the mist covers the windows panes and fog envelopes in the air. When faces are pale, palms are cold, a merry Christmas is there but not so merry hearts, a fear that says, 'what will be next once this merriment ends ?' and the cold hearts searches for warmth to be pink and bloom again.

The only help that comes is from self, to hold on the things tight and let not it slip. Otherwise, there are the relics of memories and the people who once were there and have left now. Those who are far seem farther than usual, nothing helps but you and your grasping resistance and resilience. It might or might not snow in your region, lights may or may not be dim but never let the frost reside on your soul and lights in you to go off, fight.

The amount of light that you receive is another big factor why one feels depressed or gloomy in winter days. In fact, it does have a medical relevance and importance as well, it is SAD, Seasonal Affective Disorder. It still is mysterious when it comes to its causes, though up to some extent photons are held responsible and also, the ions, negative ions in atmosphere during winters. The circadian rhythm, that is also an internal clock of a human is also disturbed that again turns out to be another cause why the SAD occurs; due to the lack of light and contradictions caused by it in your body, when the clock on your wall makes you suppose that it is the time for you to wake up, your body still does not conforms to the idea. Hence, disruption in the melatonin, a hormone that controls the sleep and wake cycle, causes an imbalance in your body, that as well is somewhere responsible. A few more factors are as studied by Raymond Lam, MD researcher at the University of British Columbia, Canada and others is that there is an interaction between the brain hormones, as Serotonin and Circadian rhythm or system. It is a biological phenomenon, yet it can always be solved. Just a plenty of lights, if the sun ain't showing up, lighting up your house's interior might help as well. A proper light is not just for your vision but also for your vision towards life. Intake of proper amount of Vitamin D and B12, along with other macro and micro-nutrients, is a must too.

Remember, the days would pass and when it would be on the verge of passage, you would realise that you made it through, you would be felicitated and spirited. Spirited as such that you might think that had it lasted longer, you could still make it, but it won't last, remember. What has to go will go and what has to come will come. The chain would move swiftly as it always has, maybe the best for you is to minimise the resistance against the nature.

Take Care.

It is snowing on you
But you see, outside it is dawn
I am finding a torch for myself to be guided to you
If possible I would follow up under the street lights
I am bringing the blanket along
The network is poor here
Our telepathic clarity, has it frozen too?
Can you hear me as you used to?
I know, it was frozen without winters, in summers too
But I feel connection of loss to be restored
I know you are shivering out there
Are you home or out?
I am wearing this trench coat,
I hope you recognise me
I have learnt that you do not remember many things now
Tell me,
Would you like me to bring something along to eat?
It would be some hours until the sun sets out
Let me join you
I shall search this whole town
For you
